The early years of Baptist work in Maharashtra started with the pioneering partnership of Dr. Owen Cooper and Maurice Blanchard and Dr. Jerry Rankin.
In 1984 - (The South East Area Director) Jerry Rankin had a vision to start church planting work in Mumbai, with Rev. G. Krupananda, a project of SOUTHERN BAPTIST MISSION which was called NATIONAL INDIAN MINISTRIES
In 2001 - looking at the growth of the local churches and their striving towards being self-supportive, Dr. Fred Beck the Director of South East Asia of the Southern Baptist Convention was led to hand over the Baptist Mission work to the locals, to be self-supporting, self-propagating and self-governing.
In 2002 - the organization was registered with a new name MAHARASHTRA BAPTIST SOCIETY in order to SERVE the ALMIGHTY, by serving the PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY.
Today as it stands MAHARASHTRA BAPTIST SOCIETY functions in three departments for MAKING BETTER SOCIETY.
